BIG GREEN SET TO OPEN IVY LEAGUE PLAY
Following the first 12 games of the season against non-conference opponents, the Big Green will open Ivy League play this weekend when they travel to Yale for three games. They will look to continue the momentum created on the West Coast and build upon strong pitching performances and hot bats in conference play.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth played seven games in seven days in California, posting a 4-3 overall record to move to 4-8 on the season. The Big Green opened the trip at Long Beach State, collecting a 3-0 victory for their first win of the season.
Marco Dumsky and
Jack Metzger put up dominant performances on the mound, combining for nine scoreless innings, allowing only four hits, and racking up 12 strikeouts.
Kolton Freeman also started a hot streak at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run.
Â
The Big Green then faced Loyola Marymount, winning the final two games to split the series with the Lions. Metzger continued to shine on the mound, collecting the save in the third game of the series, a 10-8 victory, allowing only one run on three hits.
Max Zajec shined at the plate, going 3-for-6 with four RBIs.
Â
In the final game at LMU, Dartmouth got out to an early lead and did not look back en route to a 10-2 victory. Freeman went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, also crossing the plate three times for the Big Green.
Jackson Hower also went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double.
Â
Dartmouth closed the West Coast trip at California Baptist and despite surrendering a 7-0 lead, outscored the Lancers 10-4 over the final four innings to secure the 18-12 victory and a winning record on the trip.
Elliot Krewson had a breakout performance, going 4-for-6 at the plate and driving in four runs, including a two-run home run in the ninth inning to add insurance runs. Metzger also left his mark on this game, collecting the win after pitching 2.1 innings in relief and allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
Â
OFFENSE AND PITCHING HAVE SHINING MOMENTS
After only scoring 18 runs through the first five games, the Big Green's offense came alive on the West Coast, powering them to four victories. In seven games, Dartmouth pushed 53 runs across the plate.
Â
Tyler Robinson and Freeman still lead the team in batting average, posting a .429 and .409 respectively. Krewson is fourth on the team with a .353 batting average but leads the team with 11 RBIs. Cmeyla sits right behind him, having knocked in ten runs so far.
Â
While Dumsky led the Big Green to their first win of the season, he also collected Ivy League Rookie of the week honors. In addition to Dumsky and Metzger,
Eddie Albert and
Mac Burke also had strong performances on the mound. Burke pitched three innings to collect the win in the first victory over LMU, while Albert allowed only one run on four hits across six innings to secure the win in the final matchup with the Lions.
Â
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs will play one more game Wednesday before welcoming the Big Green this weekend. Currently sitting at 2-11, Yale will look to respond following their most recent losses to UMBC.
Â
Yale is led offensively by Davis Hanson, who sits second on the team with a .275 batting average and leads the team with eight RBIs and 14 hits. Hanson has also knocked two of the Bulldogs' three home runs this season. Jake Williams is the only other Bulldog to have a home run and leads the team with a .277 batting average.
Â
Three pitchers have combined to start 13 of the 14 games on the mound for the Bulldogs. Reid Easterly leads the team with a 3.28 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched, the only starting pitcher to have collected a win to this point in the season.
Â
Tate Evans leads the relief pitchers, having thrown 10.1 innings in six relief appearances. He posts the second-best ERA and is tied with Easterly for the team lead in strikeouts, 23.
