PHILADELPHIA – The Dartmouth women's soccer team had a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Penn at Rhodes Field on Saturday afternoon. This marks the third straight time the Ivy League rivals have ended in a tied match.
Ola Goebel stood out for the Big Green, collecting a career high of four saves in a single game while making her third start.
The first 45 minutes of the match were scoreless, but close, as Penn outshot Dartmouth 6-2 while taking two corner kicks. Goebel kept the Quakers from taking the lead by making her first two saves.
Emmanuella Frimpomma set up a penalty kick for Dartmouth in the 57th minute, getting fouled by Penn's Eden Veenema. Lykke Ihrfelt took the kick for the Big Green, finding the lower right pocket of the net for the lead and scoring her second goal of the season.
With four minutes left in the game, Penn's Abbey Cook launched a game-tying header into the net off an assist from Taylor Ferrero.
The Big Green will return to Hanover, N.H., on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when hosting Brandeis at Burnham Field. Dartmouth will continue its promotional schedule with Student Appreciation Night, where students will receive free popcorn, Gatorade slushies and chocolate milk while supplies last.
