HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green competed in two regattas for the third weekend of the fall season, travelling to Brown for the Hoyt Trophy and hosting their first of two regattas this fall.
At the Hoyt Trophy, the Big Green posted 49 A Division points and 37 B Division points, combining for 86 total points and a third overall finish.
Dartmouth started the day hot, posting back-to-back first place finishing positions in both the A and B Division. A tenth-place finish dropped them into second place, but another first place finish bumped them back into first.
Eight of the Big Green's ten races to conclude the Hoyt Trophy were top ten finishing positions. Both divisions posted second place finishing positions in the third B Division race and the fourth A Division race to help Dartmouth to third place overall.
On Lake Mascoma for the Mrs. Hurst Trophy, the Big Green formed two teams, earning fifth place and 13th place.
Dartmouth's first team earned fifth place, posting 64 A Division points and 68 B Division points, securing a top five finish by one point.
12 of their 18 races across both divisions were top ten finishes. In the sixth set of races, both divisions posted first place finishes for their best finishes of the day. The A Division also had third place finishes in their first two races of the day while the B Division's second best finish was fourth in the eighth race.
The Big Green's second team finished 13th overall, posting 66 A Division points and 105 B Division points. They also got out of the gate quickly, posting four straight top ten finishing positions before earning first in the third A Division race to bump them into second place.
Dartmouth only posted five top ten finishes over the next 13 races, including two tenth place finishing positions, to finish in 13th.
The open and women's sailing team will return to action next weekend at three regattas, most notably the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1 hosted by St. Mary's.
They will also compete at the Smith Trophy hosted by MIT on Saturday, and the Danmark Trophy hosted by Coast Guard on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28.
