HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green had a busy second weekend of the fall season, competing in five regattas.
Alders Kulynych-Irvin and Ben Sheppard represented the Big Green at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Singlehanded Championship. Kulynych-Irvin, a first-year, finished tenth in the women's conference championship with 104 total points. Seven of her finishes were in the top ten, including a second-place finishing position in the sixth race.
Sheppard finished in the middle of the pack, 16
th of 31 participants, with 174 points. He posted three top ten finishing positions, his highest being fifth in the second to last race.
The Big Green earned two second place overall finishes this weekend, at the Hatch Brown Trophy and the Regis Trophy.
At the Hatch Brown Trophy, Dartmouth posted only seven points in both the A and B Divisions and 33 points in the C Division for 47 total points and second place. The Big Green tied for a win in the A Division and won the B Division.
Across the three Divisions, the Big Green had only one finish outside the top ten. Dartmouth posted three first place finishing positions, one in the first A Division race and the following two in the second and third B Division races. The C Divisions best finish was ninth in their final race of the day.
Finishing in second place, the Big Green finished six points behind Harvard who also posted seven points in the A Division, and two points above Yale in third.
Dartmouth's other second place overall finish came at the Regis Trophy. The Big Green posted 34 points in the A Division and 14 points to win the B Division and finish second with 48 total points.
The Big Green finished outside the top ten only once, while the B Division posted first place finishing positions in three of their five races. The A Division's best finish was second in their third race, a result that at the time brough them within only one point of eventual regatta winners, Brown.
Brown posted 35 total points, followed by the Big Green with 48, and Bowdoin in third with 49 points.
Finally, the Big Green competed at the Barnett Trophy with two teams, finishing in eighth and ninth respectively. Dartmouth's first team posted 77 A Division points and a second best 30 B Division points to finish eighth with 107 total points.
Just behind was the second team, posting 68 A Division points and 60 B Division points for 128 total points and ninth overall.
The first Big Green team combined for 12 top ten finishes across their 16 races. Both division's best races came in the second set of races, as the A Division posted a third place finishing position and the B Division posted a second place finishing position to momentarily jump the Big Green into fourth place, before ultimately finishing eighth.
The second team also posted 12 top ten finishing positions. The A Division's best finish was fifth in their seventh race while the B Division's best finish was second in their sixth race.
The Big Green will return to action next weekend, competing in two regattas. They will travel to Brown for the Hoyt Trophy while also hosting the Mrs. Hurst Trophy for their first home regatta of the fall season and in the newly renovated Allen Boathouse.
