DURHAM, N.H.—Dartmouth field hockey traveled to Durham on Sunday to take on in-state rival New Hampshire. The Big Green fell in double overtime to the Wildcats.
New Hampshire opened the scoring just 4:19 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead.
It took just over two and a half minutes to even the game. Lucia Campano swerved through multiple UNH defenders and drove towards the net. She fired a pass to the front of the cage and Ally Brosie fired home her first career goal.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half. The Big Green faced seven shots in the opening half. Ava Carlson started in net and made three saves in the first half.
2:06 into the second half the Big Green found the back of the net. Dartmouth earned a corner and the insertion from Riley Dumigan went to Ella Bowman at the top of the circle. She fired a shot towards the net; the ball was deflected by Campano into the back of the cage. It was Campano's first goal of the year and Bowman's second assist.
Kylie McKinley took over the cage to start the second half; she made four saves in the third quarter.
With seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, UNH tied the game at one. Both teams looked to end the game in regulation but neither team scored despite each team having three shots.
The game went to overtime and UNH tallied five shots in the first overtime session. McKinley turned away all three shots that were on goal in the first overtime period.
Three minutes into the second overtime session, UNH scored to take the win.
McKinley had seven saves in the second half and two overtime sessions. Bowman led Dartmouth with two shots while Campano, Brosie, Zoe Schaffer, Riley Dumigan, and Amelia Luessmann each had a shot.
The Big Green close out their four-game road swing next weekend with a pair of games in Pennsylvania. Dartmouth takes on Penn on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3 PM before taking on Lafayette on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 12 PM.
