CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth men's lightweight rowing team headed to Boston on Sunday to compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles. The eight finished fifth out of 10 crews, with the four coming in ninth.
The Head of the Charles is a three-mile, 4,800 meter course which features a number of turns. It is completed in a time trial format. Overall Dartmouth rowing (men's heavyweight and men's lightweight and women's) finished second in overall team points for the MacMahon Cup at the weekend's Head of the Charles.
"The 60th edition of the Head of the Charles was a great regatta, and the lightweight events once again highlighted how competitive the sprints league will be this spring," said Dartmouth head coach
Trevor Michelson. "The Charles is a great opportunity to test our speed against our spring championship competitors one month into the 2025-2026 campaign. I'm pleased with the efforts and speed we laid down in Boston, and am excited to get the group back to work on Tuesday."
The eight's time of 14:21.433 was better than Georgetown, Princeton, Yale and Mercyhurst, only trailing Harvard, Cornell, Penn and MIT. The Big Green were only 15 seconds behind second-place Cornell.
Earlier on Sunday, the four posted a time of 16:14.018, which was ahead of Penn, Harvard and Cornell's B entries.
The Big Green wrap up the fall season when they host Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 1.
