LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Dartmouth softball team was unable to extend its winning streak on Saturday in Louisville, suffering losses to South Dakota and Illinois. The Big Green were in the running for their fourth straight win, and second straight over the Coyotes, but were on the wrong side of a walk-off before a comeback bid came up empty against Illini.

GAME 1: South Dakota 3, Dartmouth 2
Dartmouth used dominant pitching and a late offensive push to defeat South Dakota yesterday, but on Saturday morning was upended in the final half inning with Tatum Villotta's walk-off single. Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Gabby Moser's leadoff double spelled trouble for the Big Green, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Â
The Coyotes put up a run in the first inning and Dartmouth, hitless through three innings, got on the board in the fourth after
Allie Ohde hit a two-bagger and later scored on a double steal. South Dakota needed just a half inning to get that run back, with an RBI triple from Alecea Mendoza providing the Coyotes a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Olivia Schramm doubled in the sixth to score
Alaana Panu, who drew a leadoff walk, knotting the game at 2-2. The Big Green went down in order in the top of the seventh and couldn't hold off South Dakota in the bottom half to force extras.
Â
Rachel McCarroll started in the circle and allowed one earned run through four innings.
Jensin Hall, who struck out 11 during Friday's complete-game shutout, fanned two and allowed three hits in two and a third innings. The Big Green compiled four hits against Kori Wedeking, who went the distance in the circle with five strikeouts to her credit.

GAME 2: Illinois 13, Dartmouth 5
Illinois led 6-0 after an explosive second inning and Dartmouth rallied, starting with a three-run third, and eventually was within one run, but the Illini pulled away again and were able to put the Big Green away in six.
Â
Mary Beth Cahalan and
Cwen Wilson recorded two hits apiece, and
Olivia Schramm came up big in the third inning with a two-run double that cut the cut Illinois' lead in half. Cahalan followed suit in the fourth with an RBI double, bringing the Big Green within two, and Ohde lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth that had Dartmouth within one, 6-5.
Â
A two-run fifth, followed by a five-run sixth by the Illini were insurmountable for the Big Green. Illinois posted 13 hits against Hall, who started, and McCarroll, who pitched three innings in relief. Adisyn Caryl and Megan Ward both contributed three hits for Illinois.
Â
With one more game in Louisville remaining, Dartmouth takes on Michigan at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 17 before opening Ivy League play next weekend at Harvard.
