STORRS, Conn. - The Dartmouth softball team looked to extend its three-game win streak with a non-conference game at UConn. Unfortunately the Huskies proved to be spoilers as the home team put three runs across in the third to ensure the victory, 5-3.
The Big Green (18-15) erased a one-run UConn (25-12) lead in the top of the third with a two-run home run by Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) but the Huskies came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added one more in the sixth for its final tally.
Nikki Yee was the top hitter for the Big Green as she garnered two hits on the day, one of them a double. Gleason's home run gave her two RBIs and was her fourth of the season.
Yee began the third with a double to right field, before Gleason's homer gave the visitors a one-run lead. In the sixth the Big Green attempted a rally as Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) began the inning with a single through the left side. With one out Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill. ) walked to put runners at first and second. An infield error allowed Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) to reach base as Parker came around to score ad Dartmouth was down by just a run.
In the circle Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) went the complete game as she struck out one.
For UConn, Julianne Towers was 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI while Jessie Stavola got the win in the circle. She went 5.1 innings, striking out six.
The Big Green will be back in action this weekend with two days of doubleheaders against Ivy League divisional foe, Yale. Game time on Saturday is 1:00 and Sunday is 12:00.
