NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Dartmouth field hockey team traveled to New Haven, Conn. to take on No. 16 Yale. Dartmouth fell to the Bulldogs 3-1 in the Friday evening matchup.
The first quarter saw seven shots and no goals for either team. The Big Green tallied one shot as Lucia Campano was credited with the shot. Ava Carlson faced four shots on goal in the opening quarter and turned away all four shots on goal.
Both teams earned one penalty corner in the first quarter.
Just like the opening quarter, the second quarter didn't see any goals. The teams combined for just four shots with two being on goal. Campano had a shot on goal for the Big Green while Carlson turned away the Yale shot on goal.
The Big Green earned the only two penalty corners in the quarter but could not convert.
At halftime, the Big Green had three penalty corners while allowing just one Yale corner. Carlson made five saves in the opening half.
2:47 into third quarter, Yale took a 1-0 lead off a penalty corner.
Less than two minutes later at the 4:03 mark of the third quarter the Big Green answered. Dartmouth earned a penalty corner. Ella Bowman gained possession of the ball near the top of the circle and fired the ball towards the front of the net. Fellow captain Olivia Galiotos redirected the ball into the net for her third goal in the last four games. Bowman notched her fifth assist of the season.
The game went to the fourth quarter tied at one after the third quarter saw five combined shots and five corners.
Just 3:35 into the fourth quarter, Yale earned a penalty stroke and took a 2-1 lead. Under six minutes later, Yale scored on a penalty corner to take a 3-1 lead.
The Big Green pulled Carlson for the extra field player following the goal but could not make a comeback. Dartmouth had four shots in the fourth quarter with two being on goal.
Carlson made nine saves in the loss while Galiotos, Bowman, Lucia Campano, and Georgia Thronton each had a shot on goal. Bowman had a team high four shots.
The Big Green continue a four game road swing as they head to Burlington to take on Vermont on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 PM.
