Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior … Riley Griffin of the men's golf team.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your most memorable on-course team moment?
RG: Preseason is always a great bonding time with the team. We wake up early, play 18 holes, get lunch, and then head back to the course for 18 more, or go to the range. We spend a lot of time on the course together, but with no academic responsibilities yet, preseason allows us to just live in the moment and enjoy the game.
DS: And your most memorable on-course individual moment?
RG: During practice, I holed out from 145 yards on the 16th hole. I wasn't sure if it went in or not, and my playing partners didn't see either. So when I got up to the green and took it out of the hole, it was a pleasant surprise.
DS: Do you have a nickname on the team, and if so, how did you get it?
RG: Coyote. My name is Riley which rhymes with the Looney Tunes character "Wile E. Coyote." I'm not sure how it really got started but Coach loves it.
DS: Any hidden talents you can share?
RG: I don't think I have any hidden talents. If I do, they are hidden to me as well.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
RG: Sam Ohno. He makes the game of golf look effortless and never seems to let anything get to him.
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
RG: Probably Hanover Country Club. I spend hours a day there in the fall playing the game I love. At the same time, as the leaves start to change, the course becomes rather beautiful.
DS: What are your plans after Dartmouth?
RG: As of right now, I have no definitive plans after Dartmouth. Obviously, the current pandemic has changed the narrative of our daily lives.
