Game 7: #14/15 Dartmouth at Hartwick (4-2-1)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 26, 7:00 PM
Location: Elmore Field, Oneonta, N.Y.
Series Record: Dartmouth leads, 3-2
The teams renewed their series last season, when Dartmouth
took a 2-1 victory in Hanover. Tied at 1-1 in the final minutes, the teams
appeared headed to overtime until Hartwick was called for a handball in the
box. Andrew Olsen (Norwell, Mass.) stepped in to nail the game-winning penalty
kick with just 59 seconds to play.
Prior to last season, the teams had not met since 2001, an overtime win
for the Hawks.
This Time Out: #14/15 Dartmouth returned home from California on Monday and started classes for the fall term on Wednesday. Soccerwise, the players have had a much-needed six-day layoff between games. Dartmouth, which just had its first loss of the season, faces a solid Hartwick squad (4-2-1), that has won is last three games, scoring seven goals in the three contests.
Last Time Out: The Big Green split its weekend in California, first defeating San Diego, 2-1, before falling to #18 Loyola Marymount, 3-2. Against the tournament host San Diego, Dartmouth trailed 1-0 at halftime before a pair of second-half goals from Austin Bowers (Greenwich, Conn.) and Craig Henderson (Wellington, New Zealand) to take a 2-1 final lead. It was another comeback on Sunday for the Big Green against Loyola Marymount, this time trailing 2-0 with just 15 minutes to play. Junior Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) scored two goals just four minutes apart to tie the game in the 80th minute. LMU managed a goal of its own just two minutes later and held on for the 3-2 victory.
Player of the Week: Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) picked up Ivy League Player of the Week accolades after tallying two goals and an assist at the San Diego Nike Classic. He was also named to the all-tournament team. Keat provided a well-played assist on Henderson's game-winner in the 78th minute against San Diego. In the next game, he led the Dartmouth offense with two goals in a late comeback against LMU. Keat scored in both the 76th and 80th minutes to tie the game at 2-2. Of his five shots on the weekend, Keat put four on goal. He now has six goals and 13 points just six games into the season
Where We Rank: A pair of independent publications put the Big Green in the national top-15, with Soccer America ranking Dartmouth 15th nationally and College Soccer News tabbing the team 14th. The NSCAA coaches poll tabs Dartmouth for 15th in the nation.
