HANOVER, N.H. – On Friday, Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Harrity announced Assistant Coach
Blake McFadden will be elevated to serve as the interim head coach through the 2026 season.
McFadden, who joined the Big Green staff in the fall of 2018, has played a key role in the program's development over the past seven years. Since his arrival in Hanover, McFadden has helped mold dominant pitchers including Jack Metzger '23,
Danny Will '25,
Eddie Albert '26, and
Nate Isler '27 who will return in 2026 for their senior and junior seasons.
"Both from my observations and speaking with the student leaders on the team, it's clear that Blake's positive impact on our baseball program has been significant," Harrity said. "While his primary focus has been with our pitchers, his leadership and influence have extended to every corner of the program, from recruiting to gameday. He embraces and demonstrates a deep understanding of Dartmouth's distinctions, and his commitment to supporting our student-athletes is evident in everything he does. We're excited to support Blake as we enter this new era of Dartmouth Baseball."
"I am truly honored and excited to step into the role of interim head coach for Dartmouth baseball. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Mike Harrity, and the senior administration for trusting me with this incredible opportunity to lead such a storied program," McFadden said.Â
"I am also thankful to Coach Bob Whalen for his unwavering support and guidance throughout my career, his influence has been invaluable. I'm looking forward to building on the legacy of excellence here and continuing to work with our talented student-athletes to achieve success both on and off the field. My family and I are thrilled to continue being a part of the Big Green, and are excited for the next chapter in this great program's history".Â
Under McFadden's guidance, Metzger led the team with six saves in a single season twice (2022 and 2024) and ranks third all-time among Big Green pitchers with 12 career saves. Will, who ranked second on the team during his senior season with 14 appearances, sits second all-time in total appearances, making 62.
In only five full seasons, McFadden has seen six pitchers join the single season and career program record lists: Metzger in both single season and career saves, Max Hunter '21 in single season appearances, and
Danny Will and
Shane Bauer '24 in career appearances. In his time, five pitchers have been named All-Ivy: Max Hunter in 2019 (honorable mention), Trystan Sarcone '22 in 2022 (second team), Justin Murray in 2022 (second team), Metzger in 2022 (second team), Nathan Skinner '22 in 2022 (honorable mention). In 2022, Dartmouth finished with a 24-19 overall recording, including 14-7 in the Ivy League to finish third in the league standings.
Eddie Albert and Nate Isler had breakout seasons in 2025 under McFadden. Isler led the team with 55.1 innings pitched while Albert posted the most strikeouts, 51, including his career high 11 in his start vs. Cornell. The Big Green swept the Big Red to get back into the Ivy League Tournament race, giving themselves a chance at the postseason until the final game of the season.
"I could not be happier for Coach McFadden, and the program, that he has been selected as the Interim Head Baseball coach at Dartmouth College" Bob Whalen said, who recently announced his retirement after 36 years leading the baseball program. "Dartmouth is getting a high character leader, with a superior work ethic, who will excel in his role as head coach. Blake has earned this opportunity through his demonstrated ability to teach and coach the game, his experience with national recruiting, a deep understanding of the admissions process, and his ability to build relationships. I wish Coach McFadden and his family every success and happiness".
