Dartmouth and Crimson To Resume Series Sunday at 11:30 am
HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth baseball took the opening game of a three-game weekend set on Friday over Harvard. The Big Green took the first game 13-9 and were trailing 4-1 entering the top of the eighth when the second game was suspended due to darkness.
It was the Crimson who jumped out to an early lead on Friday as they hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning.
Harvard added to its lead in the top of the second with runs on back-to-back wild pitches to take a 5-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the second inning the Big Green got on the board. Senior Zackarie Casebonne hit his first homer of the season on a 1-0 pitch to make it a four-run game. One batter later, Axel Riess hit his first career home run to cut it to a 5-2 Harvard lead.
After the Big Green held the Crimson off the board in the top of the third, the Big Green cut it to a two-run game. On the first pitch of the bottom of the third, A.J. DeMastrie hit his first career homer over the right centerfield wall to cut it to 5-3.
The Big Green failed to use the momentum as Harvard regained a four run lead in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Big Green started a rally led by a leadoff single from Elliot Krewson. Following an out, Jackson Hower singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a strikeout and Chris Miller walked to load the bases for Camden Rush. On the first pitch he saw he roped a double over the shortstop's head to bring all three runners home and make it a 7-6 game.
Harvard answered in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 9-6 Crimson lead.
Dartmouth started and completed its comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Big Green trio of Hower, Miller, and Casebonne drew three straight walks to load the bases. After a fielder's choice cut Hower down at the plate, Reiss drew a walk to score a run. Taer Rodriguez then singled an 0-2 pitch to right field to bring home Casebonne to make it a 9-8 game. Two pitches later on a 1-0 pitch, DeMastrie singled home the game tying run to make it 9-9. On a 2-2 pitch, Krewson gave Dartmouth its first lead of the game on a single to center field. Following a Crimson pitching change, Ethan Brown punched a single to right on the ninth pitch of the at-bat to bring home a pair of runs and make it 12-9 Dartmouth.
The Big Green added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Reiss drove in Casebonne on a single to make it 13-9.
Harvard loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth, but first-year Kyle Klaric-Schell came out of the bullpen and struck out back to back batters to earn the save.
Eddie Albert started on the mound for the Big Green, he went five innings while allowing six runs, he struck out six.
Danny Will picked up his fourth career win and the first of 2025 as he went 2.2 innings allowing just one run.
