PRINCETON, N.J. – The 2015 Men's Lacrosse All-Ivy League Teams were announced on Wednesday afternoon, with two Dartmouth seniors appearing on the list. Phil Hession was named to the first team, while Robert Osgood was a second-team selection.
The last time the Big Green had a first and second team selection in the same year was in 2010.
“Phil and Bobby have done a lot for Dartmouth lacrosse over the last four years,” head coach Brendan Callahan said. “I am happy that they received some recognition for all of their hard work. We thank them for their efforts and the legacy they will leave behind them.”
A native of Canton, Massachusetts, Hession appeared in all 13 games and started all but one. He had 14 points from six goals and eight assists, led the team with 101 ground balls and was 140-for-224 in face-offs (.625). In the Ivy League, he was second in ground balls and third in face-offs.
He broke his own single-game records in both ground balls and face-offs three times throughout the season. Most recently against UMass Lowell, he set new marks by going 22-for-25 in face-offs and grabbing 19 ground balls.
On March 23, after Dartmouth defeated Harvard for the first time in four years in a double-overtime thriller, Hession was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week and the Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week for going 20-for-24 in face-offs and leading the team with 15 ground balls.
“Phil was a warrior for us in the middle of the field this season,” Callahan said. “He has painted a picture of what it means to be a man of Dartmouth lacrosse, and has set the standard for the rest of the program to follow for years to come.”
Osgood, who hails from Marblehead, Massachusetts, once again was one of the team's top defenders all season, tasked with covering the opposition's best players throughout the spring and anchoring the Green's back end.
He wrapped up his final season with one goal, which was scored on Senior Day against Brown. He was second in ground balls with 54 and was third among the Big Green with 13 caused turnovers. As a junior last year, Osgood earned honorable mention recognition.
“Bobby was a magician with his skill of picking up the ball and made a ton of plays for us in the defensive end of the field,” Callahan continued. “He showed us how to tackle adversity with toughness and what it means to be a great teammate.
