PHILADELPHI, PA. — The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team continued to struggle away from Scully-Fahey Field in a 9-4 loss at #13/17 Penn on Saturday. The loss dropped the Big Green to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in the Ivy League. The Quakers improved to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
The Big Green scored the first goal of the game on sophomore Chris Costabile's (Sykesville, Md.) 12th goal of the season with 11:31 remaining in the opening quarter. The Quakers responded by scoring the next seven goals, which spanned the rest of the first quarter as well as the second and third periods.
Heading into the fourth quarter down 7-1, Dartmouth scored the first three goals of the frame, but Penn added two late goals to reach the final score of 9-4. Freshman Mike Olentine (Princeton, N.J.) led the Big Green with two goals, his third and fourth of the season. Senior Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) tallied two goals and junior Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded two assists. Junior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) continued his streak of making double-digit saves. He had 10 in the game to push his streak to seven.
The Quakers had two players score two goals each, John Conneely and Dan Savage. Corey Winkoff led Penn in points with four assists. Goalkeeper Brian Feeney made nine saves to earn the victory.
Dartmouth continued to be its own worst enemy committing 25 turnovers. The team entered the game averaging 18.92 turnovers per game.
