HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team is 2-1 to start the season after picking up back-to-back victories on March 5-6 at Sacred Heart and versus Mercer.
Against Sacred Heart on March 5, the Big Green earned its first win of the season in the 9-7 victory. The goalie doesn't always get the credit in lacrosse, but junior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) played a stellar game to give the Big Green a two-goal victory. Campbell made 17 saves to stifle the Pioneer offense. While Campbell was busy defending the net, the Dartmouth offense had seven different players record a goal in the victory.
In the game against Mercer on March 6, Dartmouth used veteran leadership and some fresh faces to cruise to a 17-10 victory over the Bears.
FIVE SPOT
Junior
Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) scored five goals on six shots in the 17-10 win
over Mercer on Sunday. It was the first time a Big Green player has scored five
goals in a game since Ari Sussman '10 did it last season at home against Penn
on April 24.
CAREER
FIRSTS
Two
freshmen scored their first career goals over the weekend. Mike Olentine (Princeton,
N.J.) and Jeff Perkins (Dallas, Texas) each scored multiple goals in the win
over Mercer. Olentine had two goals and an assist in the game and Perkins
scored three goals in the fourth period.
SCOUTING
THE CRUSADERS
Holy
Cross enters the game against the Big Green with a 0-3 record after losing at
Quinnipiac, 10-5 last Saturday. The Crusaders played their first two games at
home, losing to St. John's, 16-7, and to Hartford, 10-5.
Matt Boylan leads the team in points with eight on four goals and four assists. John Hannan is second on the team with seven points on a team-best seven goals. James Kennedy is third on the team with six points on two goals and four assists.
The team has used two different goaltenders with Mike Fisher starting two of the three games. Kenny O'Connor has started one game, but has played more minutes in goal than Fisher.
Holy Cross is averaging 6.33 goals per game, while allowing 12.67. The Crusaders take 32.7 shots per game, but commit 18.67 turnovers per game.
SERIES
HISTORY
