USILA All-America and Scholar Athletes
HANOVER, NH - Dartmouth senior long-stick Casey Hingtgen (Carlsbad, Calif.) was recently named an honorable mention All-American and a Scholar Athlete by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, while senior captain Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) was also selected as a Scholar Athlete by the USILA.
This is the first time Hingtgen has earned national honors for his play on the field. He was named first team All-Ivy for the first time in his career and he earned first team All-New England honors with a career-high three goals this season. The senior defenseman was a faceoff specialist for the Big Green and won 70 draws during the season. He won 12 huge faceoffs against Brown on May 1 and gave Dartmouth countless opportunities. Hingtgen scored a career-high two goals in the 18-13 win at Vermont on April 20. He was the first long stick to score in the first 10 games of the season. He added another goal two games later at Bryant in the 7-5 loss.
He was a huge presence in the middle of the defense as he led the team with 22 caused turnovers and with an average of 2.2 a contest, he was ranked fifth in the nation. He led the Big Green with 55 ground balls and averaged 5.5 ground balls per game, putting him 13th in the country in the category. Hingtgen was eight away from tying his career-high of 63, which came as a freshman.
In addition to his play on the field, Hingtgen will graduate in a week with a degree in psychology and a 3.58 grade point average. He was named a Scholar Athlete by the USILA for the first time.
Sussman was also selected as a Scholar Athlete for the first time and will earn his degree in government. He will leave Dartmouth as one of the best point-getters in the program's history. Sussman finished off his Dartmouth career with second team All-New England honors after a 44-point season on 25 goals and 19 assists. Sussman ended up with 163 career points, which ranks him fifth all-time in Big Green history. His 97 goals are eighth and his 66 helpers put him sixth. He was one of only two players in the 84-year history of the lacrosse program to rank in the top-10 in goals, assists and points.
The list of Scholar Athletes was comprised of 70 student athletes from all three divisions in NCAA lacrosse.
