HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team jumps back into Ivy League competition on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. as the Big Green travels to Penn to face-off against the Quakers.
LAST TIME OUT Dartmouth committed 21 turnovers and gave 10th-ranked Duke too many scoring opportunities as the Big Green fell, 12-6, to the Blue Devils at Stony Brook. Dartmouth was led by freshman
Fergus Campbell's (New Canaan, Conn.) career-high 17 saves in front of the cage and it was his second-straight game with at least 13 stops. Senior
Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) led the offensive attack with three goals, while senior captain
Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) added a pair of scores.
THIS TIME OUT The Big Green will be looking for its first Ivy League win of the season in its second game of the year. Dartmouth opened the conference season with a 14-8 loss to Brown back on March 21. The Quakers have already played three games in Ivy play and has an 0-3 mark with losses to Harvard, Yale and Cornell. They enter Friday's contest with a 1-6 record with the lone win coming over city-rival Drexel.
ROOKIE SAVE-IORFreshman
Fergus Campbell was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday after earning his first collegiate victory on March 24 at Holy Cross with 13 saves. He followed that up with a career-high 17 saves against 10th-ranked Duke on Saturday. He did a great job keeping the Big Green within striking distance throughout the game, but fourth quarter goals gave the Blue Devils the win. Campbell leads the league in saves per game, averaging 13.33 a game in three games.
SENIOR LEADERSHIPSeniors
Tim Daniels (Duxbury, Mass.),
Brian Koch and
Jimmy Mullen are the Big Green's leading point-getters as Mullen is tops with 15 points on 12 goals and three assists. Koch has added 12 goals as well and two assists for 14 points, while Daniels has seven goals and a team-high six assists. Mullen and Koch are the leaders with the extra man as each has three goals in man-up situations. Daniels leads the team with 36 ground balls and is fourth in the Ivy League in ground balls per game at 4.5.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERSPenn enters the weekend with a 1-6 overall record and a 0-3 mark in conference play. Senior attackman Craig Andrzejewski leads the way with 15 goals and four assists for 19 points this season. He also is tops in man-up goals with four on the year. Sophomore attackman Corey Winkoff has been an assist machine with 12 on the year to go along with four goals for 16 points. Senior midfielder Garvey Heiderman is second on the team with 11 goals and with his one assists, he is third with 12 points. He has also added two man-up goals. All three points leaders have added nine ground balls each. Junior midfielder Justin Lynch is the primary man in the X and has won 89-of-170 for a .523 face-ff percentage. He also leads the team with 44 ground balls, while junior Joe Kelly is second with 30. Senior Greg Murray and freshman Joe Hegener have split time in front of the cage as each has played in four games. Murray has the lone win with a 1-2 record with a 12.29 goal against average and a .442 save percentage. Hegener has struggled with an 0-4 mark and is averaging 14.84 goals given up per appearance.
NEXT UPAfter a couple of games on the road, the Big Green returns to Scully-Fahey Field on Tuesday against Providence at 4 p.m. and will host Ivy-rival Cornell in its second half of the back-to-back home games. The battle of the “Big's” starts on at 1 p.m. on Apr. 11.
