Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) and freshman
Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) each scored five goals, leading the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team over Holy Cross, 16-10, on Tuesday.
Nine different players contributed at least a point apiece as the Big Green broke a six-game losing streak to move to 5-9 on the year. Holy Cross went to 6-8.
The teams traded goals to start the first quarter when Dartmouth senior
Wilson Handler (Weston, Conn.) scored at 13:39 followed by the Crusaders' Paul LeBlanc at 8:29.
But 10 seconds later, the Big Green ripped off six straight - two by Koch, another by Handler, one by senior
Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) and a pair by Sussman - giving Dartmouth a comfortable 9-1 lead with 5:22 remaining until halftime.
Sussman scored twice before the break, and Koch added his third of the day as Dartmouth took a 10-3 lead after two periods.
Koch finished the day with a pair of assists for a seven-point effort, and Bonacci contributed two goals and two assists. Sophomores
Kyle Lagratta (Reisterstown, Md.) and
Jonathan Livadas (Wilmington, Del.) both scored once, while senior
Ryan O'Connor (Babylon, N.Y.) set up a pair of first-half goals.
Junior
Chad Gaudet (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman
Christopher Root (Houston, Texas) each tallied an assist.
In the nets, Dartmouth used three goaltenders. Freshman
Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) played the first half, making five saves, while sophomore
Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) came on in relief. He was credited with four saves in 25:11.
Also seeing the first action of his college career was freshman
James Pyo (Port Washington, N.Y.) who picked up two saves in about five minutes of playing time.
Dartmouth closes the regular season on Saturday, May 5, hosting Harvard in a 6 p.m. game at Scully-Fahey Field.
