PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team held a 7-3 lead after three quarters but couldn't hold on as Penn poured in five fourth-period goals for an 8-7 victory Friday night.
Big Green freshman Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) scored two goals and added an assist. Sophomore Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) also added a pair while senior Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) had a goal and one assist.
Penn's Craig Andrzejewski tied the game up with 1:41 to go in regulation and then won it with his third goal of the night with just 27 seconds left. The Quakers (5-4 overall, 2-2 Ivy) scored four goals in the final six minutes.
Dartmouth began the game with goals by Bonacci and junior Will Boardman (Brattleboro, Vt.) for a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 3-0 on Sussman's first of the night 2:35 into the second.
After Penn got within one, 3-2, at halftime, Dartmouth outscored the Quakers, 4-1, in the third. Koch potted both of his in the stanza, while Sussman had his second and sophomore Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) added another.
Freshman Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the Dartmouth goal.
The hard-luck loss snapped a four-game Big Green win streak. Dartmouth's record went to 4-4 overall, 1-1 in the Ivy League. The Big Green's next game is at home on Saturday, April 14, when the nation's top team, Cornell, comes to Scully-Fahey Field.
