BoxscoreALBANY, N.Y. - For the second straight game, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team had a ranked opponent on the ropes, only to falter in the waning minutes, as No. 6 Albany won, 15-14, on Tuesday.
The Great Danes' Frank Resetarits scored three goals in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, helping Albany recover from a 14-12 deficit.
Resetarits scored with 1:59 remaining for a 14-13 score, and then deadlocked the game at 14-14 with 50 seconds to go. He netted the gamewinner with just six seconds left.
Resetarits' seven-goal performance overshadowed the five-goal effort by Dartmouth sophomore
Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.). He also had two assists on the afternoon. Big Green freshman
Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) contributed four goals and one assist.
The game was evenly played through as Albany (12-1) held a 3-1 lead after one period before Dartmouth (4-8) recovered for a 5-5 tie at halftime. Koch scored twice in the second period, and freshman
Casey Hingtgen (Carlsbad, Calif.) tied the game with 58 seconds remaining until the break.
The Great Danes held an 11-9 lead after three before Dartmouth scored five of the first six goals in the fourth quarter. After Sussman scored his third of the day, Resetarits gave Albany a 12-10 lead with 12:24 to go.
In the next six minutes, Dartmouth scored four straight - two by Koch, one by Sussman and another by senior
Wilson Handler (Weston, Conn.) - for a 14-12 lead.
For Dartmouth, freshman netminder
Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) made nine saves.
Last Saturday with less than five minutes to go, Dartmouth held a 9-8 lead over No. 4 Virginia, but the Cavaliers regrouped for a 10-9 decision.
The Big Green closes out a five-game road trip on Saturday, traveling to No. 7 Princeton for a 12 noon start.
