HANOVER, NH ? Dartmouth men's lacrosse coach Bill Wilson announced the Big Green's 14-game regular-season schedule for the 2008 season today. The Big Green will once again play one of the most difficult schedules in the nation as five of their 14 games are against teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Two neutral site games will afford Dartmouth the opportunity to travel to tradition rich Long Island, N.Y. and to Atlanta, Ga. where lacrosse continues to explode at the youth and high school lacrosse levels.
"We are excited as a team for the 2008 spring season and look forward to the challenges that our schedule affords us. While our young men have been working hard during the off season and know there is much work to be done in preparation for the spring, a competitive schedule creates excitement and a healthy sense of urgency to work harder during the fall and winter months,” Wilson said. “Playing a strong out-of-conference schedule as well as playing within the highly competitive Ivy League line up provides a thrilling spring program for our players and fans.”
The Big Green opens the season in February with an all New England line up starting with two home contests against Hartford and Holy Cross. The month of March opens with a road game at Fairfield and then back home to Scully-Fahey Field to face Vermont. Heading into spring break Dartmouth faces-off in Atlanta, Ga. against Notre Dame, who advanced to the quarterfinals a year ago, and then against Division I newcomer, Presbyterian. “We are excited to be able to bring Division I lacrosse to Atlanta. While it is great for the game, it is also a win for recruiting as Georgia lacrosse is developing Division I caliber lacrosse players,” said Wilson.
The Ivy League season begins as the month of March comes to an end with the Big Green playing in Providence, R.I. against Brown, followed by a neutral site game in Long Island, N.Y. with Duke who went to the NCAA finals a year ago.
A challenging month of April hosts three home games against Penn, Yale, and Princeton and three road games against Cornell, Virginia, and Harvard. Princeton, Cornell, and Virginia were all NCAA tournament teams last season.
“The rigors of a strong schedule will challenge the team to develop in preparation for the Ivy League season,” said Wilson. With quality home and away contests on the schedule this spring, there is plenty for Dartmouth fans to be excited about in anticipation of the 2008 season. The countdown to Dartmouth vs. Hartford has begun.
