HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team opened its sole home race of the season on Saturday morning, placing second with 41 points in the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational.
"We had an ideal atmosphere for a fall cross-country meet. The weather was perfect and the course was in great shape. Our student-athletes competed well against some New England rival schools," Mike Nelson, the Marjorie & Herbert Chase '30 Director of Dartmouth Track & Field and Cross Country, said. "Esme and Ashton did an excellent job of leading us, and we had some strong pack running."
Esme Daplyn led the way for the Big Green, finishing third with a mark of 21:49.80. Katherine Strong followed behind, completing the race in 21:52.70. Mia Compton-Engle placed fifth overall after finishing with a 21:55.50 mark.
Andie Murray crossed fourth for Dartmouth, placing 13th overall with a final time of 22:25.80. Annamaria Bacchetta closed out scoring with her 22:34.50 finish.
The Big Green will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Oct. 3.
"We look forward to our next meet in two weeks at the historic Paul Short Invite. GO BIG GREEN!" Nelson said.
