Dartmouth Scores Four to Top Harvard in League Opener

The Big Green had four different goal scorers
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team secured its first win over Harvard since 2015 after a 4-2 victory over the Crimson on Friday evening at Thompson Arena in the first ECAC Hockey game of the year.
With the win, Dartmouth improves to 2-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in ECAC Hockey while Harvard falls to 0-1-0 overall and in league play.
Two goals in the third period helped seal the victory. Jenna Donohue scored on a penalty shot less than 90 seconds into the final frame. A late goal from Lauren Messier provided the insurance the Big Green needed as it pushed the lead back to two with just under five minutes remaining.
"It's really exciting. I'm proud of our effort," said head coach Liz Keady Norton. "I think our kids were dialed in, they were excited, they rose to the occasion, and I think I am most proud that they played 60 minutes and they played together and there was no let down in them regardless of how things went."
The Big Green scored their first goal of the night late in the first period and didn't look back. Mia Buonarosa took a shot that was initially saved by Harvard goaltender Alex Pellicci, but the rebound fell perfectly and was redirected by Hamilton Doster into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.
The Crimson tallied their first of the night midway through the second frame. Harvard forced a turnover and capitalized on the opportunity. Gabi Davidson Adams got a clear chance at goal and her shot found its way into the goal to tie the game.
Dartmouth took back the lead with just 0.7 seconds on the clock before the second intermission. On the power play, the Big Green put pressure on the Crimson as they looked to score their second goal of the night. Donohue played the puck from the blue line towards goal, and Cally Dixon, with her back to goal, tipped the puck and directed it into the goal for her second goal in as many games.
Eleanor Rogers picked up her second win of the year after making 20 saves between the pipes.
"We learned about from our game against Assumption and I think today we played a lot more as a team, ate a lot more pucks and played for each other," Doster said after the game.
Dartmouth is back in action this Sunday for an exhibition against Concordia (Quebec). The Big Green return to league play next weekend at Thompson Arena, playing host to Rensselaer and Union.

After the Crimson cut the deficit back to one midway through the final period, Messier scored her first goal of the season to push the lead back to two. Messier fired a shot that was initially saved, but she followed up on the rebound and ripped another quick shot that found its way into the net.Wild sequence leads to a Dartmouth goal being disallowed, but a penalty shot being awarded to Jenna Donohue, who put it home!
