HANOVER, N.H. — Following Saturday's thrilling 17-16 win over Yale, two members of the Dartmouth football team were recognized with Ivy League weekly awards. Safety
Sean Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week, with kicker
Owen Zalc earning Special Teams Player of the Week, as the Big Green erased a 10-0 fourth-quarter deficit for the critical victory.
Â
The weekly award marks the second of Williams' career and first since earning Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 10, 2022. That came after an interception at Yale for Williams. Flash forward three years and Williams had another, making a key fourth-quarter pick as part of the Big Green's 10-point comeback. He also added five tackles and a pass breakup. The team captain anchored a defense that allowed just 16 points to Yale, the fewest the Big Green have allowed against the Bulldogs since 2015.
Â
The award for Zalc marks his first of the season, eighth of his career and fifth Special Teams Player of the Week honor. He came up with a clutch 51-yard field goal as time expired to give the Big Green the victory. It marked the third 50+ yard field goal of his career. The kick was tied for the 13th longest kick in the FCS this season and longest in the Ivy League. It's the longest kick in the Ivy League since Princeton's Jeffrey Sexton had a 51-yarder last October vs. Harvard. Zalc was also 2-for-2 on extra points Saturday.
The Big Green hit the road for Fordham on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Rams. Dartmouth returns home to host Columbia on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. on Healthcare Appreciation Day. For Columbia tickets, please click
