AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Bradley scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back as Dartmouth suffered a 20-6 defeat on Friday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. The Braves (5-9) banged out 21 hits, four by Keaton Rice to hand the Big Green (3-7) their fourth straight loss.
While Rice had two doubles and a triple among his four knocks, both Carson Husmann and Michael Mylott each swatted a pair of home runs as the trio drove in a combined 13 runs, five apiece for Rice and Husmann
Dartmouth had two long balls of its own, courtesy of juniors
Connor Bertsch and
Kolton Freeman, but the Big Green offense could not keep up with the Braves on this day.
The game began well for Dartmouth as senior
Kade Kretzschmar singled home junior
James House, who started a rally with a one-out walk. But with runners on the corners, Kretzschmar was nabbed trying to swipe second and Bradley right-hander Jacob Kisting escaped further damage by getting the third out on a grounder to short.
The bottom half quickly got away from senior righty
Justin Murray (0-3) as Rice hit one-out, RBI triple and Husmann followed with a two-run blast, his third of the year. Five singles and a walk later and the Braves held an 8-1 lead.
After Bradley scored solitary runs in the second and third, Dartmouth got both back in the top of the fourth on Bertsch's solo blast, his fourth of the season, and an RBI double off the bat of sophomore
Nathan Cmeyla.
But Mylott smacked his first four-bagger of the day to start the fourth, and after three walks loaded the bases, Rice delivered a two-run single, and a bases-loaded free pass forced in one more to boost the Braves' lead to 11 runs. Bradley tacked on four more runs in the fifth, three coming on Husmann's second homer, putting the game well out of reach at 18-3.
Freeman wouldn't give up, however, and belted his fourth home run to lead off the sixth and tie him for the team lead with Bertsch. The Big Green added two more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Kretzschmar and a pinch-hit double by junior
Ryan Schwartz to drive in the other tally.
Mylott finished the day's scoring with a two-run shot in the eighth.
Jacob Kisting (3-1) earned the victory with a quality start of six innings while allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk, striking out six along the way.
Dartmouth collected 10 hits, led by Freeman with a double and his home run, while freshman
Elliot Krewson came off the bench and rapped out a pair of singles.
Rice finished the day 4-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs, and Husmann also drove in five on three hits, scoring three times as well. Seven of the nine starters had at least two hits in the contest.
The Big Green will be back on the diamond on Saturday at 11 a.m. to take on Central Connecticut State (4-4) in a rematch of Thursday's game, which the Blue Devils won, 8-2.
