Career Highs Abundant in Big Green’s 99-41 Win

Dartmouth posts largest margin of victory since 2018
HANOVER, N.H. – Leading 20-15 early on, the Dartmouth men's basketball team staged a 27-2 run spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second, outscoring visiting NVU-Johnson 79-26 the rest of the way to pick up a convincing 99-41 win on Wednesday evening in Leede Arena. Five different Big Green players recorded career highs in points, led by freshman Jayden Williams' team-high 16 points. Classmate Jackson Munro had 13, senior Nate Ogbu recorded 12, sophomore Connor Christensen scored five and senior Paul Hudson posted three.
In Monday's game, Dartmouth wore yellow laces as part of Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer.
The 58-point victory marked the Big Green's largest of the season, eclipsing a 55-point win earlier this month, as Dartmouth improved to 3-5 on the season. NVU-Johnson fell to 5-5. It also marked the Big Green's largest margin of victory, and fewest points allowed, since a 114-39 win over Newbury on Nov. 6, 2018. Five Dartmouth players scored double-figure points for the first time this season, as seniors Dame Adelekun and Cam Krystkowiak added 11 apiece.
The Big Green's 24 assists on Wednesday marked their most since dishing 25 on Nov. 19, 2019 against Thomas (Maine).
"Sometimes, you need to get out there and get your feet wet and get into the flow of the game a little bit," said Dartmouth head coach David McLaughlin. "I thought we were taking some decent threes early on, but I thought we were taking quick threes. We really needed to make sure the ball was moving and play inside-out. Once we started doing that a little later in the half and there were more rhythm threes, those are threes where we can make three on four possessions. That's how you pull away."
Williams scored all 16 of his points in the second half, finishing the stanza 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Ogbu's 12 points all came in the second as well, while he added a career-high six rebounds.
Raymond Baka led the Badgers with 14 points and nine rebounds.
A pretty tight beginning saw the Big Green lead by no more than five until four straight points, all scored by Munro, put Dartmouth ahead, 15-8 with 11:29 left in the first half. A few minutes later, a Baka hook shot got NVU-Johnson within 20-15 with 7:10 on the clock.
That's when the Big Green came alive. Two 3-pointers in less than a minute, from Munro and junior Jaren Johnson, gave Dartmouth its first double-digit lead at 26-15. Baka answered with his seventh and eighth points of the night, but the Big Green ended the half with 14 consecutive points. Adelekun scored eight of them, including an offensive rebound and putback with 1:01 remaining to give Dartmouth a 40-17 halftime lead.
For the game, Dartmouth shot 51.4 percent from the field (36-of-70) and 35.1 percent from 3-point range (13-of-37). The 13 made threes tied a season high. NVU-Johnson finished at 24.6 percent (17-of-69) and 19.0 percent from behind the arc (4-of-21). The Big Green held a 51040 edge in rebounds.
"We're a team that wants to push the tempo and I thought our guys did a really nice job," said McLaughlin. "When you push the tempo, it's easy to get early, quick shots. I thought we did a nice job of maybe turning down some of those good ones to get to some great ones. That energy carried over on the defensive end. The 10, 11 guys we played in the rotation all really brought that defensive intensity."

A Ryan Cornish layup gave the Big Green a 47-17 lead with 16:27 left in the second half.
