TAMPA, Fla. — After a tight defensive first half, South Florida scored 25 of the first 31 points in the second stanza and went on to defeat visiting Dartmouth on Friday night at the Yuenling Center, 63-44. David Collins led everyone with 13 points for the Bulls (5-4), while the Big Green (5-4) had a trio of players score eight in dropping their third straight game.
Turnovers plagued the Big Green all night, coughing the ball up a season-high 21 times, though they forced USF into 17 miscues as well with both teams scoring 18 points off of them. Though neither team managed much offense in the first half, Dartmouth continued to struggle after the intermission and finished the night shooting 34.1 percent (15-of-44). Meanwhile, the Bulls found their range in the second stanza, hitting 15-of-23 (.652) from the floor and 6-of-10 (.600) from downtown to turn a three-point halftime lead into a 25-point advantage at its largest.
Â
The first half featured five lead changes and six ties, but after Dartmouth took an 18-14 lead on an
Ian Sistare 3-pointer with five minutes showing on the clock, USF charged ahead as Collins scored four points and Laquincy Rideau five more to help the Bulls take a 26-23 lead into the locker room.

After the intermission, USF hit its first six shots, three from distance, while Dartmouth could only counter with a pair of
Chris Knight buckets down low as the Big Green fell behind, 41-26, before five minutes had elapsed.
Aaryn Rai then dropped in a shot, but those would be the last Dartmouth points for more than seven minutes as the Bulls built its bulge to 22 points at 51-29 with 8:21 remaining.
The closest the Big Green would get the rest of the night was 16 when
James Foye knocked down one of his two triples with 3:37 to go.
Knight, Rai and Sistare each had eight points while combining to hit 10-of-17 field goals while the rest of the Dartmouth squad was 5-of-27.
Ian Carter came off the bench to grab five of the Big Green's 28 rebounds.
Collins hit 4-of-6 from the floor with a 3-pointer and 4-of-5 at the foul line to account for his 13 points. He was joined in double figures by Ezacuras Dawson III with 11 thanks to three trifectas, and reserve Antun Maricevic with 10 on 5-of-5 shooting in 12 minutes. As a team, USF shot 48.9 percent overall (23-of-47) and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from distance, but struggled at the line at 47.4 percent (9-of-19).
Dartmouth next plays at Maine (2-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Notes: Dartmouth had played 241 consecutive games with a player scoring at least 10 points, dating back to a 69-60 defeat against Yale on Feb. 12, 2011 … the Big Green also had a streak of four straight games with at least 10 3-pointers come to an end, one of just three times they have had a streak of at least that length.
