HANOVER, N.H. — Freshman Chris Sykes caught five passes for 176 yards and three long touchdowns Sunday afternoon to lead the Dartmouth junior varsity to a 36-0 victory in a scrimmage with the Division III Norwich University jayvees.
Sykes' TD receptions went for 29, 49 and 59 yards, and R.J. Brandon caught a 70-yard scoring pass from Cole Douglas in action that did not include kickoffs, punts or extra points. Series began on the teams' own 35 and quarterbacks were not live in the 50-minute affair.
Jake Allen, Dartmouth's transfer quarterback from Florida, started and completed 6-of-10 throws for 107 yards with touchdowns of 29 and 49 yards. Cole Douglas threw just two passes but completed both for 101 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. Harry Kraft got in on the fun also, completing two of his four throws for 67 yards and a 59-yard touchdown.
Keegan McHugh ran six times for 70 yards to lead the ground game. Zack Bair carried for seven yards and a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and then weaved and broke numerous tackles on his way to a 31-yard, cross-country gain on his only other carry.
Arthur Kaslow had a 43-yard interception and runback for Dartmouth's final touchdown.
The Big Green's first score was set up by an interception as Joe Heffernan returned Norwich's initial throw of the afternoon 35 yards to the seven.
Mick Reese had five tackles including three sacks while Bobby Jefferson had a sack and five tackles up front for Dartmouth. Heffernan, Caleb Martin and Jalen Mackie were in on four stops while Max McIntosh, Josh Betts and Alex Schmidt were in on three.
The Dartmouth junior varsity will finish its abbreviated season on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. against Bridgton Academy, a one-year postgraduate school in Maine.
