HANOVER, N.H. — Senior Miles Wright dropped a game-high 21 points to help Dartmouth shoot 55.1 percent on Thanksgiving Eve, but 20 Big Green turnovers turned into 27 Great Dane points as Albany (5-0) remained undefeated with a 91-73 victory at Leede Arena. David Nichols led four Great Danes in double figures with 19 points — all in the first half — as Albany nearly matched Dartmouth (1-2) by shooting 53.1 percent from the floor.
Both teams hit 8-of-17 (.471) of their 3-point shots with Nichols drilling 5-of-9, while Big Green sophomore Brendan Barry canned 4-of-7 and Wright 3-of-7 on the night. And both teams converted all but one free throw — Albany 15-of-16 (.938), Dartmouth 11-of-12 (.917) — to complete the sizzling shooting performance.
Although the Great Danes had only a slight edge on the boards, 28-25, half of their rebounds came at the offensive end that turned into 19 points.
Joe Cremo and Travis Charles each had 18 points for Albany, and Ahmad Clark came off the bench to chip in 13.
Freshman Chris Knight continued to impress in the early going for the Big Green, matching his season high with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 at the foul line. Barry parlayed his four triples into 14 points, plus led Dartmouth with four assists. Wright, who topped 20 points for the sixth time in his career, matched a personal best with three blocks, plus swiped the ball twice to become the 18th player in program history with 100 in a career.
Albany jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, causing Big Green head coach David McLaughlin to call a timeout. After calming his troops, Dartmouth clawed back and twice held a one-point lead. A Knight layup on a fast break had the Green on top, 22-21, after eight-and-a-half minutes of action.
After the Great Danes reclaimed the lead on a Greig Stire — who led all players with eight rebounds — three-point play in the paint, Dartmouth was able to knot the score twice, first on a Knight putback and again at 29 with 7:17 until the intermission when Wright ripped a 3-pointer.
But Albany closed the half on a 21-5 run, hitting eight of its last 10 field goal attempts while forcing four turnovers and holding the Green to 2-of-7 from the floor, to take a comfortable 50-34 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, Dartmouth managed to close the gap to as little as seven at 68-61 with 11 minutes to play on back-to-back treys by Wright and Barry. The next six-and-a-half minutes belonged to the Great Danes, however, as they embarked on a 16-4 run, capped by a Travis Charles cutback, for a 19-point advantage. The lead got to as many as 20 at 91-71 on a Clark 3-pointer before Barry sank a pair of free throws to end the scoring on the night.
Dartmouth returns to action next Tuesday, Nov. 28, when it finishes off a three-game homestand by hosting Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m. Albany plays its second of three-straight road games at Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Notes: Sophomore Will Emery posted career highs of seven points and six rebounds, the latter leading the Big Green … Dartmouth blocked seven shots, its most since swatting seven against Yale on Feb. 6, 2015 … the Big Green did not have a single shot blocked for the first time since New Year's Eve in 2015 against Bryant … Albany has won four straight in the series to take a 5-4 lead all-time against the Big Green.
