ITHACA, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team used Saturday's contest to measure how it stacks up against the nation's best. After a 6-1 loss at second-ranked Cornell, the Big Green know they still have some work to do. It marked the first loss of the season for the team, falling to 3-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the ECAC. The win improves the Big Red to 6-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference.
It took 10 minutes before either team got on the scoreboard. At the 11:13 mark, Catherine White gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead off assists by Hayley Hughes and Alyssa Gagliardi. The score remained 1-0 through the end of the first period.
Cornell struck first in the second with White scoring her second goal 51 seconds into the period. The lead would blossom to 3-0 three minutes later on Karlee Overguard's second goal of the season. The Big Green finally got on the board in the first minute of the third period off the stick of sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.). It was Dumais' second goal of the year. Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) assisted on the score. The Big Red scored three more goals in the third to reach the final score.
Dartmouth finished the game 0-3 on the power play and Cornell went 1-6. The Big Green outshot the Big Red, 26-23, but couldn't take advantage.
The Big Green next play at Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m.
