Looking for First Win
• Dartmouth, coming off a 55-53 loss to in-state rival New Hampshire, is shooting for its first win of the 2010-11 season at Hartford, a team the Big Green beat in Hanover last year, 68-56.
• The road has not been kind to the Green of late, having lost their last 16 games outside of Hanover. Dartmouth has not won a game on the road since defeating Princeton on Feb. 21, 2009 by a 66-63 count.
• Against UNH, the Big Green led by as many as 17 in the second half, but a scoring drought that lasted more than seven minutes allowed the Wildcats to rattle of 14 straight points to get back into the game.
• Junior Jabari Trotter had 18 points for Dartmouth in the loss, his highest output since scoring a career-high 19 at Providence in the second game of his college career.
• Also scoring in double figures were senior Ronnie Dixon — who seems to have fully recovered from an ankle injury — with 12 points and junior David Rufful with 10, who recorded his 400th career point in the contest as well.
• The 6-4 Rufful has also led the Green in rebounding in each of the first two games, averaging 6.5.
Series vs. Hartford
• This is the 14th game on the hardwood between the two schools, with the Hawks holding an 8-5 advantage in the series.
• Dartmouth's 68-56 victory last year was its first of the season and also ended a personal eight-game losing streak against Hartford, dating back to 1990.
• Robby Pride led the Big Green with 19 points against the Hawks last year, while Rufful had 15, senior Clive Weeden 12 and Trotter 11.
• Dartmouth won the first four encounters, with the initial meeting taking place in Hartford on Nov. 24, 1984, a 55-52 Big Green win in overtime.
Scouting the Hawks
• Hartford has not been able to pull out a pair of close games thus far this year, losing by two points to both Central Connecticut State (64-62)and Northeast Conference favorite Quinnipiac (66-64).
• Senior forward Morgan Sabia has scored 23 points in each game, recording a double-double in the opener by adding 13 boards as well.
• Prolific shooter Joe Zeglinski, also a senior, is back as well after averaging 16.5 points last year while taking nearly 10 three-point attempts a game. He is still honing his stroke this year, however, having hit just 8-of-27 (.296) from the floor thus far.
• Milton Burton isn't afraid to launch from long range, either, but is just 3-of-17 (.176) in the first two games from behind the arc.
• Hartford is coached by John Gallagher (not the tight end for the Big Green football team), who is in his first year back with the Hawks after serving as the associate head coach from 2006-08. He is quite familiar with Dartmouth having served on the staff at Penn the past two seasons. He was originally hired to be the associate head coach at Boston College this season, but was released from that obligation to take this head coaching job.
Connecticut Conniption
The state of Connecticut has not been kind of late to the Dartmouth men's basketball team. The Big Green have lost 16 straight games within the borders of this fine state with the last win coming at Quinnipiac on Dec. 18, 2001 by a 70-68 final. Nine of those losses are to Yale, four to Quinnipiac, and three to tonight's opponent, Hartford.
Trotter Gets Up to a Run
In the second game of junior Jabari Trotter's career two years ago, he scored a career-high 19 points at Providence. His 18 points against New Hampshire on Nov. 16 were the most he had scored since then, a span of 56 games.
Lighting Up the Board
In three of the four halves played by the Big Green this season, they have struggled to find the bottom of the net, shooting between 25 and 27 percent from the floor. But Dartmouth had its stroke going in the first half against New Hampshire, draining shots at a 59.3 percent clip (16-of-27).
Taking a Big Lead
At one point in the two-point loss to New Hampshire, Dartmouth held a 17-point advantage early in the second half. It was the largest lead for the Big Green against a Division I opponent since holding an 18-point spread against Hartford last year in Leede Arena before settling for a 68-56 win.
