PRINCETON, N.J. ? For the third time in four weeks, freshman cornerback and kick returner Shawn Abuhoff (Hialeah, Fla.) was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Not only is the honor his third of the year, but also the fifth for a Dartmouth player.
Two weeks ago, freshman quarterback Conner Kempe (Tequesta, Fla.) earned the award after his first collegiate start behind center, while freshman place kicker Foley Schmidt (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was named the league's top rookie after his first collegiate game in the season opener on Sept. 20.
The Big Green's top cover man on defense, Abuhoff recorded a career-high 10 tackles, three of which were solo, while helping hold Princeton to just 88 passing yards in Dartmouth's 28-10 road loss to the Tigers. He also returned a pair of kickoffs 43 yards and brought back three punts for 10 more.
Two other Big Green players were recognized on the Ivy Honor Roll for their efforts versus Princeton: senior linebacker Joe Battaglia (Manlius, N.Y.) finished his career with a career-best 12 tackles, five solo, to lead the Dartmouth defense; and junior Peter Pidermann (Hialeah, Fla.) returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown ? which followed up Abuhoff's 94-yard return last week ? and contributed five tackles from his free safety position.
