Five Dartmouth Football Players Named All-Ivy
HANOVER, N.H. -- First-team selection 
Justin Cottrell (Somers Point,  
N.J.) was one of five Dartmouth seniors selected to the All-Ivy  
League football team Monday on a vote of the conference coaches.
Named to the second team were wide receiver 
Brian Evans (Fairfield,  
Texas), safety 
John Pircon (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and offensive  
lineman 
Taylor Layman (Brentwood, Tenn.). Chosen honorable mention  
were offensive lineman 
Ben Goeke (Chevy Chase, Md.) and defensive end  
Cullen Gilchrist (Dartmouth, Mass.).
Cottrell led the Ivy League this year with 108 tackles. His 10.8  
average placed him 10th nationally and he led Ivy League linebackers  
with three interceptions. Cottrell  finished his career 13th on the  
Dartmouth all-time list for career tackles with 243.
Evans led the Ivy League for the second year in a row with an 18.6- 
yard average on his 34 catches. He had seven TD receptions this year.  
He closed out his career with 69 catches for 1,189 yards in three  
season as a receiver after switching from defensive back. He will  
graduate 12th on the Dartmouth list for career yardage.
Pircon posted 90 tackles this year, third in the Ivy League and 50th  
nationally. He had nine pass breakups this fall, four fumble  
recoveries and one interception. He had 218 tackles in his Big Green  
career.
Layman helped the Big Green offense score 271 points this year, the  
most since the undefeated 1996 team scored 275. He was a key cog on  
an offensive line that saw sacks decline and rushing yardage increase  
for the third consecutive season.
Goeke, a two-year starter, helped Dartmouth pile up 59 points against  
Cornell, the most by a Dartmouth team since 1935. The Big Green  
averaged 27.1 points and 142.6 yards on the ground behind Goeke and  
his linemates.
Gilchrist had 27 tackles in his final season. He tied for the team  
lead with eight tackles for loss and was tied for the lead with three  
sacks. He broke up two passes and had two forced fumbles.
Dartmouth finished 3-4 in the Ivy League and 3-7 overall.
