STORRS, CONN. ? Three unanswered goals in the second period lifted the Connecticut Huskies women's hockey team past the No. 4 ranked women of Dartmouth, 4-2, in a non-league contest Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green struck first at 11:30 of the first period, taking advantage of their first power play opportunity of the day. Junior assistant captain Nicole Ruta (Pickering, Ont.) netted her third goal of the season off an assist by Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.), giving Dartmouth a, 1-0, lead.
The second period went the way of the Huskies straight from the opening face-off. Just 49 seconds in, Dominique Thibault took a pass from Jaclyn Hawkins and buried it past Dartmouth netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.), evening the score at ones.
At 15:05 the Huskies knocked again, as Amy Hollstein gave her squad their first lead of the game, setting the pace for a dramatic upset.
Not three minutes later, Thibault extended their lead to, 3-1, forcing the Big Green to come from behind in the third period.
In just the second minute of the final stanza sophomore Sarah Newnam (Lexington, Ky.) brought Dartmouth within one as she recorded her second goal of the season on a pass from Katie Weatherston (Thunder Bay, Ont.).
Huskies goalie, Brittany Wilson made nine key saves in the third period, eliminating any further comeback chance for the Big Green.
Connecticut put the final touch on at 19:12, as Clemis was pulled for the extra-skater advantage, leaving Britney Chandler an open net, capping off a, 4-2, upset for the Big Green.
With the loss, the squad falls to 14-4-2, while the Huskies increase to 12-9-1 on the year.
The game ended senior captain Gillian Apps (Unionville, Ont.) 11-game point streak, as well as capping off the team's 11-game unbeaten streak.
Dartmouth will be back in action again on Jan. 20, when they host New Hampshire at Thompson Arena at 1:00 p.m.
