HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s rugby team earned the No. 4 spot in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) Preseason Poll announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Big Green placed fourth in the first national rankings of the season thanks to an outstanding 2016 campaign that saw them earn their second straight Ivy Rugby Championship and a berth in the national tournament.
The No. 1 team in the country coming into the 15s campaign is the defending national champion Quinnipiac, Dartmouth’s opponent in the team’s home opener next Saturday, Sept. 9.
Also on the Big Green’s schedule this season and making an appearance in the preseason poll was No. 3 Army West Point (Sept. 23) along with No. 7 Harvard (Oct. 7) and No. 10 Brown (Oct. 14) on consecutive weekends to close out the regular season.
Head coach Katie Dowty and her team kick off the 2017 15s season this weekend on the road at Penn State in State College for an organized scrimmage. Game time on Saturday is set for 12:30 p.m..
