MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Dartmouth women’s rugby claimed the top spot in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) coaches’ poll, collecting nine first-place votes. Defending NIRA Champion Quinnipiac earned the remaining four first-place votes to sit in second.
After Central Washington in third was Ivy rugby rival Harvard, which is the Big Green’s next opponent. Rounding out the top five was Army West Point, which was ranked third when it fell to Dartmouth less than two weeks ago.
The Big Green are off to a great start this season, as they remain undefeated with a record of 3-0. Dartmouth opened 2017 almost a month ago with an impressive 22-17 victory over two-time defending national champion Quinnipiac, which was first in the country at the time. Continuing with their tough schedule, the Green took down the third-ranked Black Knights, 45-7, the following weekend. Most recently, Dartmouth shut out Princeton.
Just two more matches remain on the Big Green’s regular-season schedule. This Saturday, Dartmouth will head to Cambridge to take on No. 4 Harvard at 1 p.m., and will return to Hanover the following Saturday to host No. 9 Brown.
