HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's rugby team is one of just 12 teams from across the country to earn a spot in the 2017 College 7s Women's National Championship.

The Big Green are fresh off their victory at the 2017 NIRA 7s Challenge Cup last weekend at Brophy Field in Hanover in which they defeated Army twice en route to the title.

“We're very excited and proud to be representing Dartmouth on the national stage,” head coach Katie Dowty said. “Sevens really suits our style of play — fast paced, lots of ball movement — and we've had some good results thus far this spring to earn the bid.

“Sevens is so exciting because anything can happen over the course of just 14 minutes, so we're working on managing each game so that those 14 minutes play to our strengths rather than the opposition's,” Dowty remarked. “In a National Championship tournament, it will come down to who can force the other teams into playing their game.”

The three-day event will take place May 19-21 at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colorado. Tickets can be purchased through Infinity Park's website and include three-day package rates. Between the women's field and the men's Division I and II National Championships, all 111 games played will be broadcast live on The Rugby Channel.

“As a program, we are aiming for many more national championship appearances in both 15's and 7's in the near future, so we are thrilled to be taking this step,” Dowty said of her team's inclusion in its second national tournament of 2016-17.
