HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s rugby team hosted the Ivy 7’s Championship on Sunday at Brophy Field.
The Big Green fielded a pair of squads, both of which posted above .500 records on the day.
The Dartmouth ‘A’ team finished with a 4-1 record with the lone loss coming to Harvard in the championship tilt. The Crimson exacted a certain level of revenge after the Green and White defeated them in Cambridge during the fall and the 15s season.
The 10-5 title match win was the second meeting of the afternoon between the two programs as Dartmouth came away with a 12-0 win in the final game of pool play.
The Big Green did not allow a point in the three games during pool play, shutting out Penn (41-0), Columbia (38-0) and the Crimson (12-0). The first team to break through in the scoreboard was Brown in a 17-12 Dartmouth victory in the semifinal that set up the title game matchup with Harvard after the Crimson edged Princeton, 22-19, in the other semifinal.
In all, the team posted the second-best scoring margin of any team with a plus-91 (the Tigers were +114). However, no team could match the Green’s prowess on defense, allowing a tournament-low 22 points in five games.
The Dartmouth ‘B’ team won the consolation bracket, defeating Penn, 36-0, in the semifinal and Columbia, 31-0, in the final. This Big Green squad also beat Yale, 15-5, in pool play after losses to Brown and Princeton.
Overall, they posted a 3-2 record with 87 points for and 66 against.
