One season is just beginning, while the other has almost reached the pinnacle but both are represented by stellar athletes. Freshman Frankie Sands saved her best run for last, scoring the insurance try in winning the Ivy Rugby title over Harvard. Junior Devin Buffalo is making the best of his time in goal for the men's hockey team, leading the nation in goals against average and backstopping the Green to a 1-0-1 weekend.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Frankie Sands, Fr., Essex, Vt., C, Women's Rugby

After Dartmouth trailed 5-0 at halftime, the Big Green used a pair of second-half tries to take the lead and secure their second straight Ivy Rugby Championship Sunday at Harvard. Sands made the play of the game with a long run, taking several Crimson players with her as he crossed the tryline in the 70th minute, giving Dartmouth the insurance they needed as the team’s defense shutout the home team in the final half. One of the team’s top point producers this season, Sands saved her best play for a time when the Big Green needed it most.

Devin Buffalo, Jr., Wetaskiwin, Alberta, G, Men’s Hockey

The nation’s leader in goals against average (0.97) and save percentage (.957), Buffalo allowed just one goal in a three-point ECAC Hockey weekend for the Big Green. The junior netminder was beaten by a shorthanded goal in the third period of the Cornell game on Friday, but managed to help Dartmouth to a 1-1 tie. He followed up with a 21-save shutout — the first of his career — the following evening in a 2-0 win against Colgate. In three starts, Buffalo has amassed a 2-0-1 record and allowed just three goals, the fewest in the nation by eligible goalies.
