PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth women’s rowing team returned to the water on Sunday morning at the Princeton Chase. The Big Green were highlighted by a first-place finish in the Novice 8+.
"This regatta was a great opportunity for us to employ the aggressive racing mindset we're working to develip, especially after last-minute lineup changes shuffled the crews," head coach Wendy Bordeau said. "We've focused on improving our technical efficiency this fall and it was satisfying to see our rowers hold onto those improvements in the heat of racing. It's always fun to race perennially fast programs, especially twice in one day. Kudos to the Princeton coaches and CLRA regatta staff for running a smooth regatta under threatening skies."
Dartmouth started the day off well in the Varsity 8+, being led by a sixth-place finish by the A crew (14:28.95), completing the course just four-tenths of a second behind Virginia and less than a second ahead of Brown in seventh. The Big Green’s B boat was 18th (15:00.48), C came in 30th (15:27.44) and the D boat was 45th (16:02.99).
Two of Dartmouth’s crews finished in the top 10 in the Varsity 4+. The Green’s A boat took sixth (16:16.47), out-finishing Rutgers by almost a full 10 seconds, while the B boat took ninth (16:29.75). The C and D crews were 15th and 18th with times of 17:08.63 and 17:28.39, respectively.
In the final race of the day, Dartmouth took first with a time of 14:49.86, leaving over 10 seconds between it and Duke’s A crew, which was second (15:00.20).
Next Sunday, Nov. 5, Dartmouth will host the freshman-only Green Monster. Just the Foot of the Charles remains on the schedule for the fall.
