HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men’s hockey team will host its annual toy drive for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock with the first of three collection days coming on Saturday, Nov. 25 during its home game against Vermont.

The Big Green will continue the tradition of collecting new, unwrapped items for those at CHaD to kick off the holiday season as they take on the Catamounts — their regional rival and former ECAC Hockey foes — at Thompson Arena at 7 p.m.

In addition to Saturday’s game against Vermont, the Big Green will also be collecting donations during a home game on Saturday, Dec. 9 against Bentley as well as the following afternoon when the team hosts its annual ‘Skate With the Big Green.’

CHaD has provided a list of items they are looking for and are often requested by patients. It moves away the idea of just providing toys to those in their care, but items that serve a purpose on a daily basis or can engage better than traditional toys.

- Training cups
- Gel Pens for teens
- Teen mandala coloring books
- Nail polish
- Slippers
- Warm clothes
- Little People animals and people
- Memory or matching games
- Find-it books or look and find books
- Little Tikes My First Tool Box
- Melissa and Doug play food (non-felt or fabric materials)
- Blank journals
- Medical play kits
- Train sets

- Teen appropriate board games
- Comfy PJ’s for teens
- New Release DVD’s (Age appropriate)
- Washi Tape
- Patterned Duct Tape
- Cause and effect toys (i.e. Playskool Play Favorites Busy Poppin’ Pals)

Staff members have also expressed a need for items to be used in their wrapping station such as: wrapping paper, tissue paper, bows, gift bags and tags.

These are suggestions from those who work with the kids on a daily basis. However, traditional toys are also still a welcomed donation that will be collected by members of the team on the concourse throughout the evening.
