ALBANY, N.Y. – Dartmouth sophomore winger Daniel Warpecha was tabbed as the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Willow Springs, Illinois, native was presented with the honor after his best weekend in a Big Green sweater as he finished tied for the league lead with four points on two goals and a pair of assists.

Warpecha was a force in the team’s home sweep of Brown and Yale, scoring once and assisting on another in each of the victories, putting together his first back-to-back multi-point efforts since joining the team a season ago. He finished the weekend with a plus-4 rating, the best figure in ECAC Hockey and the fifth-best in the nation.

Both goals scored came with Dartmouth on the penalty kill, making him the lone player in the nation this week with a pair of shorthanded tallies. He is tied for the national lead with two shorthanded markers this season with two other players who have both played in 10 games already, six more than Warpecha and his Dartmouth teammates.

His assist to linemate Charley Michalowski set up the game-winning goal midway through the second period against Yale and helped lift the Green and White to their first home win against the Bulldogs since 2012.

In all, the sophomore has scored a goal in three of his team’s four goals this season and is second on the team in scoring with five points (3-2-5). He and linematess Michalowski and Kevan Kilistoff combined for 11 of Dartmouth’s 19 points over the two games.

Harvard’s Reilly Walsh was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week, while Colton Point of Colgate was recognized as the Goaltender of the Week.

Warpecha and the rest of the Green and White head out on the road this weekend for two more league games, taking on Cornell Friday night in Ithaca and Colgate Saturday afternoon in Hamilton.
