At a glance their names are very similar, both beginning with O, on the score sheet this past weekend their stats are very similar. Both senior athletes scored hat-tricks to lead their teams. Senior Grant Opperman earned the hat toss for three goals in a 5-4 win at Brown. Kennedy Ottenbreit closed out her senior season with three goals in Thompson Arena against Yale.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Kennedy Ottenbreit, Sr., Grayson, Saskatchewan, F, Women's Hockey

Kennedy Ottenbreit ended her career in style on Saturday, scoring her second collegiate hat trick to help Dartmouth defeat Yale by a score of 4-1 on Senior Day. She opened scoring at 2:57 of the second period and added a second marker at 10:09. She completed the hat trick at 3:10 of the third with an unassisted tally, winning her own faceoff and firing into the right corner. She also had a two-point performance against Brown the evening before.

Grant Opperman Sr., Wayzata, Minn., F, Men's Hockey

Grant Opperman came into last Friday’s game with Brown having scored just four goals all season. He nearly matched that in a period and a half at Meehan Auditorium, scoring his first career hat trick on the road at the expense of the Bears. Opperman’s hat trick also helped Dartmouth overcome an early 2-0 deficit to earn the 5-4 win and two key points in the ECAC Hockey standings as the Big Green approach the upcoming ECAC hockey postseason still trying to lock up home ice in the first round.
