HARRISBURG, Pa. – Junior Olivia Champ had her ride of the year today at the 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship, finishing fourth in the country in Individual Open Fences.
Champ rode Skidmore College’s Crosby in a stellar round over fences to place first in the class with a score of 87 out of a possible 100. The top-four riders were called back for a “test” over a shortened jumping course, which included numerous assessments including a counter-canter and a lengthened canter to a fence.
Although Champ rode well, it was her draw Crosby who had a stop at the second fence, resulting in her dropping to fourth.
Over 500 riders from across the country and Canada compete at the IHSA Nationals, narrowed down from the 10,000 in the IHSA. This is done through individuals competing and exceling in both Regionals and Zone Championships until only the top riders remain.
