HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth equestrian team hosted the 2018 IHSA Zone I, Region 2 Regional Championships at the Dartmouth Riding Center on Saturday, and came away with the team regional championship. This is the fifth time that the Big Green have brought home the team title, adding to their victories in 2005, ’07, ’10 and ’14.

Nine schools had riders competing for an individual shot at the Zone I New England Championships with riders needing to finish first or second in their respective classes in order to qualify for zones. Dartmouth qualified four riders in six classes for the regionals, three of which moved on to the zones. Junior Olivia Champ was the champion in both Open Flat and Open Fences. The Big Green also featured a pair of reserve champions in senior Claire Bick in Open Flat and sophomore Meghan Poth in Novice Flat. Junior Sue Mohieldin also competed in Walk-Trot-Canter and finished third, narrowly missing out on zones.

In addition to her individual classes, Olivia Champ will also compete at zones in the Cacchione Cup against the other four Regional High Point winners. Only the top three out of five Cacchione Cup competitors will move onto the national finals. Other Dartmouth riders finishing in the top 10 regional Cacchione finals were sophomore Sophie Lenihan (fourth), Bick (sixth) and sophomore Lilly Higgins (eighth).

The Zone I New England Championships will take place on April 7 at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. If the Big Green finish in first or second out of the five Zone I championship teams, they will move onto the nationals finals, which will be held May 3-5 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
