OTTAWA, Ontario  Laura Stacey ’16 was named the 2017 Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) Rookie of the Year at the Awards Gala at the Kailah Mital Theatre at Carleton University over the weekend.

She was up against former Clarkson standout Renata Fast (Toronto Furies) and Iya Gavrilova (Calgary Inferno) for the award.

Still wearing the No. 7 on her sweater, Stacey ended her first season with the Brampton Thunder with 24 points from 11 goals and 13 assists in 22 games. She had one game winner, which was scored in the 6-0 defeat of the Boston Blades in the second to last regular season game. She was tied for sixth in the five-team league in points.

The Big Green’s 2015-16 captain had at least one point in 13 games this season and had eight multi-point performances.

At the end of February, Stacey played in both of her team’s games in the Clarkson Cup. The Thunder ended their season following a pair of losses to Montreal.
