WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 10 Dartmouth lightweight rowing finished in ninth place at the 2017 Eastern Sprints Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.
The Big Green entered four boats in the event, sending three to Petite Finals and one to the Grand Final. The second, third and fourth varsity crews all improved on their seedings, finishing one spot higher than the poll suggested.
Dartmouth placed sixth in the fourth varsity Grand Final (6:12.93), finishing four full seconds ahead of Penn in seventh (6:16.94).
In heat one of the second varsity, the Big Green took fourth with a time of 5:59.51, leaving a two-second gap between them and the Georgetown Hoyas (6:01.45). Dartmouth was second in the Petite Final with a 6:01.72, out-finishing Georgetown once again, this time by almost four seconds. Penn placed first in 5:58.15.
The Big Green raced in heat one of the third varsity, rowing a 6:09.72 to take fourth and advance to the Petite Final. Later on in the day, Dartmouth was second (6:02.37), finishing just three-tenths of a second behind Georgetown in first and over 20 seconds ahead of Penn.
In the first heat of the first varsity, the Green were fourth (5:54.57), beating the Hoyas by almost 40 seconds. In the Petite Final, Dartmouth rowed a 5:55.98 to take third, finishing behind Navy in first (5:48.89) and Georgetown in second (5:49.60).
Dartmouth will continue its season at the IRA National Regatta in Folsom, California, from June 2-4.
