ANNAPOLIS, Md. —  At the conclusion of a cool and blustery opening round at the Navy Spring Invitational, senior Jamie Susanin of the Dartmouth women’s golf team had a seven-over 79 to put her in a tie for seventh overall. Her score helped the Big Green finish the day tied with the host school for fifth among the field of 12 with a 331 (+43), just three strokes behind Youngstown State in third.

At the front of the pack on the par-72, 6,085-yard Naval Academy Golf Club course is Harvard, which posted a 310 (+22) for the day, while Lehigh was six strokes off the pace in second

The Crimson are in the lead thanks in part to Anna Zhou who carded a two-over 74. Michelle Xie, Zhou’s teammate and last week’s medalist at the Harvard Invitational, completed the round tied for fourth with Lehigh’s Minuette Laessig with a 77 (+5) behind second place contenders Reagan Jahn (Lehigh) and Reva Morris (YSU) who recorded a 76 (+4).

Junior Jessica Kittelberger and freshman Maddie Nelson battled the windy conditions for Dartmouth to tie for 16th at 10-over par. Junior captain Isabelle Kane rounded out the scoring quartet for the Big Green with an 88 (+16), while her classmate Tara Simmons also competed.

The final round of the tournament tees off tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
