BOCA RATON, Fla. — Dartmouth freshman Moon Cheong earned medalists honors at the FAU Winter Warmup to start the 2018 spring season by carding a 2-over 74 in the second round for an overall 146 (+2), beating out Florida Atlantic’s Tai Barber by a single stroke. Cheong’s performance enabled the Big Green to tie for second with Brown with a 618 (+42), only seven strokes behind host FAU with 611.

Cheong matched her total of three more birdies from yesterday’s round of even par at the Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida. Throughout the two rounds, she recorded the lowest average on the par-4 holes at even par as well.

Senior Jessica Kittelberger joined Cheong in the top 10 with a 73-80—153 (+9) in sixth place overall. Sophomore Kristen Soh, playing as an individual, had the next-best score for the Big Green, improving by one stroke today to card a 79-78—157 (+13) to tie for 12th, and classmate Maddie Nelson also shaved a stroke in the second round to place 14th, two strokes behind Soh.

But it was freshman Julianne Strauch who showed the biggest improvement after struggling in the opening round to shoot a 77 (+5) on Monday to contribute to the team score.

The women have a month before they continue their spring season when they head to the West Coast to compete at the Otter Invitational hosted by UCLA Monterey at the Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, California.
